Select a build

Plug Nomad into a USB port

Your browser will show a list of serial devices. Pick Nomad and click Connect. A board still running its factory program connects as it is, with nothing to hold down.

Not connected

If it will not connect, use boot mode

Only needed on a board that has already been flashed once. Leave Nomad plugged in and powered, then:

Press and hold the left button.
Press and release the right button.
Release the left button.

Then click Connect again. On the Mk4 case both buttons stay exposed.

Write the firmware

Writes the selected build to the board. The bootloader, partition table and app all go on in one image (…). It takes about a minute, and the board should stay plugged in the whole time.

Which board do you have?

Erase the whole flash first Slower, but clears saved settings, themes and Wi-Fi credentials. Use this if the device is misbehaving after an update.

A web page has no access to drives or partitions, so this is the one step that happens outside the browser. Use the disk tool for your system if you have one, or run the commands below with the card plugged in.

Choose the SD card

Pick the root of the card, the drive itself and not a folder inside it. Your browser will ask permission to save changes.

Pick what to copy

Web interface … Every page, script and stylesheet Nomad serves. Always required. Create the media folders Makes … with the exact names the firmware looks for. Shipped configuration Wi-Fi name and password, brightness, RGB, and which menu pages start hidden. These are the settings a prebuilt Nomad ships with. Untick it to keep whatever is already on the card. Full test suite … Placeholder content for every media bucket on this build. Mostly one file repeated under different names and covers, enough to fill the menus and exercise each page rather than anything to watch.

First boot

Once the card is written, the rest happens on the device itself.

Insert the card and power Nomad from any USB port.
Connect to the Wi-Fi network Jcorp_Nomad with the password password.
Open the browser interface. Most phones and laptops will offer it automatically through the captive portal.
Click the gear icon, then Library Index, then Full Scan Now.
Watch the Admin Console for progress. A large library can take several minutes.

Both the Wi-Fi name and the password can be changed later from the Admin page.
